Stay in

Very rarely are you stuck inside around here because of weather.  But if you just are feeling sun-adverse or wind-adverse, here are some great indoor activities to do.

San Luis Obispo Children's Museum - Very fun children's museum.  They are continually adding new exhibits, and the kids love it here!  They often have special activities during the week and on weekends.  You can also get in free on some Thursday evenings during farmer's market.

Pacific Coast Gymnastics, Atascadero - This is a great place for the non-committed gymnast between the ages of 10 months and 5 years.  They have the Guppies and Big Guppies classes which are parent and me classes that you can drop in and pay $6 per class.  No registration fee or anything.  And the instructors are fun and your kids will jump and bounce and tumble a little.  Give it a try.  Check the websites for times, but it is available several times a week mid-morning.

Library Storyhour/Summer Reading - Whether you live here or are just visiting for a while, there are lots of fun events put on by the local libraries.  You can learn about different animals, or go to a concert with Ivan Ulz, the fire truck song guy.  Also, sign up for the summer reading program.  Read some books, get a whole bunch of goodies.  And once summer is over, all of the libraries have storytime a certain day of the week.

Morro Bay Natural History Museum - Located in beautiful Morro Bay State Park, this is a fun way for the kids to learn about the estuary and the local animals.  Kids are free, adults are $3, and although the museum is small, even just the view is worth it!  I'd say plan on spending no longer than an hour or an hour and a half here.  But you can also walk down the trail next to it to the marina and check out the boats.

Morro Bay "Aquarium" - This place got a front page article in the New Times recently called "The Saddest Aquarium on Earth", I believe it was.  But I just think the problem is all in the name.  When you think of an aquarium, you might think of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is absolutely amazing.  So, then you go here and are all disappointed.  So, just think of it as a gift shop that you can go and pay $2 for you, $0-$1 for your child to see some seals and some eels and maybe splerge an extra 50 cents to actually feed the seals.  Then, it will be worth the trip.  Plus right across the street is The Shell Shop which has a remarkable assortment of shells and shell creations for sale or viewing.

Bowling - There are three bowling alleys that I know of in the county.  Mustang Lanes at Cal Poly, Pismo Bowl, and Paso Bowl.  I have only been to Mustang Lanes, but I'm sure all of them have bowling balls, pins, and the funny shoes.
